Arval expands its international project “1 electrified vehicle = 1 tree” to the rest of the countries where it operates

March 22, 2022

Arval, a global leader in full-service vehicle leasing and sustainable mobility solutions, is expanding its first international biodiversity project, launched in 8 countries in 2021, to all other countries where the company operates in 2022. The project in a nutshell: Arval will plant a tree for every electrified vehicle (electric and hybrid) leased. Local projects have been identified in 17 countries, while the remaining 11 will contribute to a global project in Peru. The aim is to promote local biodiversity and involve employees at the local level, as well as Arval’s customers. By the end of 2025, Arval’s ambition is to have financed more than 700,000 trees in line with the Arval Beyond strategy.

Growing concern about climate change has put sustainability at the center of CSR strategies around the world. Each year, the climate emergency remains highly relevant, and Arval is well positioned to drive a positive shift towards sustainable mobility and actively participate in the fight against climate change. CSR plays a key role within the strategic plan, Arval Beyond, with an upwardly revised ambition for CSR 2025: 700,000 electrified vehicles in its fleet (representing 35% of its global fleet).

The Project was first launched in the 8 Arval countries with the highest volume of electric vehicles delivered in 2021. These countries are Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom. By the end of 2021, more than 97,000 trees have already been financed. After its implementation in these countries, the project has been extended in 2022, to the rest of the countries where Arval is present. In 2021, Arval Spain has contributed 12,369 trees, with a target for 2022 of 15,000 financings.

The project is an excellent opportunity to carry out actions that protect forests, to commit to the preservation of biodiversity and to combat deforestation, while promoting the adoption of electrified vehicles.

By the end of 2025, Arval will have financed more than 700,000 trees worldwide, of which nearly 100,000 will be contributed by Arval Spain.

By expanding this project, Arval will support reforestation projects and do good for the environment around us. Specifically, Arval will be able to measure the environmental and social benefits of each reforestation project. The total benefits expected at the close of 2025 are:

  • 105,000 tons of CO2 stored
  • 2,100,000 shelters created for animals
  • 2,800,000 months of CO2 generated
  • 700,000 working hours created

“With the “1 electrified vehicle = 1 tree” project, we have integrated corporate responsibility into the very core of our business, counting on every employee and customer to embark on a sustainable journey towards the adoption of electrified vehicles” commented Alain van Groenendael, President and CEO of Arval.

In the words of Miguel Cabaça, Managing Director of Arval Spain: “Thanks to the awareness of our customers and collaborators, the progression of our fleet towards electrified vehicles is reflected in this action, which shows our strong and common commitment to combat climate change and promote biodiversity”
